I realized.

The communion that Jesus served was not doughy rolls and fruit juice. It was unleavened bread and wine. Though we can’t exactly be serving wine all the time, there’s something symbolically different about wine. Fruit juice. . . the grapes are squeezed and squashed. . . but wine. . . the grapes are crushed and then left to ferment. They rot. They die. And after delays and perseverance and patience, they become something glorious. The wine of Redemption.

To be alive, first we must die.
